A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin to promote clear, well-hydrated skin. A facial is the second most popular spa treatment after massage. It is sometimes called a "deep-cleansing facial" or or "deep-pore cleansing" facial because of extractions.
It varies from person to person. Ideally, get a facial monthly because that's how long it takes the skin to regenerate. Try to have a facial at least four times a year, as the season changes. You may need it more frequently if you are trying to clear up a case of acne, especially at the beginning. Otherwise, once a month is plenty. You can overdo it.
The primary action of high frequency current is thermal(heat producing) and is characterized by a high rate of oscillation. For years, high frequency machines have been used by Estheticians to eliminate and prevent acne, shrink enlarged p
How Do High Frequency Machines Work?
Many Estheticians harness the power of high frequency to kick-start the skin rejuvenation process.
The safe and gentle oscillating, oxygenating power of high frequency electrical current has been shown to enhance blood circulation, increase collagen and elastin production, eliminate toxins and acne-causing bacteria, encourage lymphatic drainage, exfoliate dead skin cells and improve skin care product absorption. Due to its rapid rate of oscillation, high frequency does not cause muscular contractions - instead, it works on the principle of skin toning.
All high frequency facial machines function using glass High Frequency Electrodes which come in many different shapes and sizes to treat various contours of the face and body. When applied to the surface of the skin, a mild electrical current passes through the neon or argon gas filled glass electrode causing it to emit a subtle glow. The electrodes produce varying intensities of light and a pleasant, therapeutic tingling sensation which may be adjusted via a power control dial. All High Frequency Electrodes produce either a neon red / orange light or violet / blue light depending upon the inert gas that they are filled with. Traditionally, violet electrodes have been used by professionals to treat acne prone skin and the orange electrodes have been used to treat aging skin. We have found that both colors produce equally effective results regardless of skin care concern.
High frequency current works on skin toning rather than muscle toning by causing a circulation rush to the skin in addition to partial thermal tissue warming. This function will cause a "natural" contraction of underlying blood vessels and tiny muscle groups. The dilation of the underlying vessels pushes away toxins, while the cells enjoy a feast of increased nutrients and hydrating volume. This result is in an increase in blood circulation and cell renewal. Increased production levels of Collagen and Elastin soften and smooth away wrinkles, reduce pore size and improve overall skin texture. The application of high frequency current also promotes a cleansing antibacterial action that helps prevent the onset of acne. The skin is left feeling instantly energized, rosy, firm, refreshed and noticeably softer - even after just one treatment. The enriched oxygen molecules produced by high frequency machines is safe and has been proven to be effective on almost any skin lesion from acne to burns, waxing procedures, cold sores, etc. and helps to quickly heal and restore the skin's health.
|Is High Frequency Facial Treatment Safe?|
High frequency skin care treatment is considered a safe and gentle therapeutic approach to skin rejuvenation however the following precautions should be taken:
Avoid using AHA or Glycolic Acid products with high frequency.
|The Benefits Of High Frequency Skin Care Treatment|
High frequency facial treatment is a safe and gentle alternative to dramatic plastic surgery procedures, laser resurfacing, chemical peels, Collagen and Botox injections and other invasive treatments.
When applying high frequency for anti-aging purposes, results can vary by individual and skin type, are gradual, and do not occur overnight. Although high frequency has been shown to produce an immediate and temporary lifting effect, continued daily application can provide more cumulative long-term, lasting results. Interestingly, many acne sufferers have found improvements in their complexions after only a few days of use.
Some or all of the following steps will be performed, depending on the analysis and the facial selected: cleansing, skin analysis, exfolation (removal of surface cells), disencrustation (dissolving of surface oils), extractions (see below), application of skin-balancing mask and/or other treatment products, aromatherapy therapy face, neck & scalp massage, customiazed facail mask, toner, serums, moisturizer and skin protection ending in eye care.
Suggestions for home care will be provided.
What is an extraction?
Extractions are considered the heart of a clinical-style facial - they are the manual removal of sebum (oil and dirt) from your pores. It is the sebum, trapped within the pores beneath the skin’s top layers, which can cause breakouts. Once the Cleansing, Exfoliating and Steaming has been preformed, then I will proceed to apply pressure to congested areas on your face, using my fingers and a soft cleansing cloth to place pressure on a Black Head and proceed to remove any visual black had. Sebum-free pores not only don’t develop pimples, they appear much smaller, making your skin look clearer and brighter.
Q. I’ve heard a facial can cause you to break out - is this true?
Properly performed, facials generally do not cause breakouts - rather, they speed up the healing process and prevent future breakouts. Improperly performed, the reverse can be true. This is one reason you should carefully select where you choose to receive your facials. The most common cause of post-facial breakouts is incomplete extractions (see above). If an esthetician chooses to extract a pore which is not ready, or if she begins to extract a pore and does not finish the extraction process, this can bring the sebum to the surface and cause a pimple to form. This boils down to the expertise of the esthetician. The facility’s investment in products and equipment also play a role. Low-quality products and unnecessary ingredients can cause negative skin reactions. Finally, the use of "high-frequency" equipment (to kill bacteria and close the pores at the end of a facial) will decrease the likelihood of post-facial breakouts.
Why should I have a facial?
Regardless of your age or gender, if you want your skin to look its best you have to take care of it. A facial does for your skin what a month of exercise and good nutrition does for your body – noticeably improve its look and feel. Through exfoliation, deep-cleaning of the pores, stimulating improved circulation, and use of professional-strength products, your esthetician can make a lot of progress towards improving your skin in a single session. Like the personal trainer, I have 15 Years of experience, techniques, high end facial products and equipment that cannot be replicated at home.
Why should I have regular facials?
While a month at the gym will achieve great results (as will a facial), if you stop exercising and eating well, your body will start heading back to its previous condition. You’re still better off than you would have been without that month of conditioning, but if you keep up the program, you will continue to improve your appearance and your health. Likewise, regular facials (especially with an active home-care regimen) will help prevent breakouts, keep your surface cells newer and healthier, and thereby ensure that your skin looks its very best. I as your aesthetician can recommend the optimal frequency for your particular skin - it will vary from person to person.
Q. If this is my first facial how do I know I'm getting a good facial?
A. Ask how long the full facial experience will be, if your booking is 45 mins to 1 Hr you most likey are missing out on some key clinical procedures- Things ALL Facials should include: Cleansing, Exfoliating, Steaming, EXTRACTIONS! High Frequency and/or Galvanic Machine, Face Massage ( minimum time of 15 Mins), Mask, Toner, following with Moisturizing and/or Serums and Eye Care. Dont Miss out on what you should really be experiecing... Remember just because they have a beautiful waiting room doesn't mean your getting the best in services, you deserve to have the full therapeutic service, make the most of your facial, your skin must benefit from a facial but your mind and soul are just as important...
Variations on the Classic European Facial
Variations on the classic European facial include the mini-facial (a 30-minute treatment that usually skips extractions). Use a line formulated for mature skin, with ingredients like vitamin C, and you have an anti-aging facial. It's an oxygen facial when a mist of pure oxygen is part of the treatment, or the products are formulated to deliver oxygen to the dermis. It's a collagen facial (also anti-aging) when special collagen sheets are placed on the skin. An acne facial will pay special attention to extractions. A photo facial is a separate light treatment to achieve specific results like boosting collagen or treating acne.
It's not enough to get a facial to keep your skin clear and beautiful. You need to have a great home skin-care routine. Here are the everyday habits you need to keep your skin beautiful:
